George Vanderbilt hired Frederick Law Olmsted to landscape Biltmore Estate's expansive grounds. In 1895, Vanderbilt welcomed family and friends into his new home and commissioned renowned artist John Singer Sargent to paint a portrait of the landscape architect. This unique image reflects the legendary talent of a 19th-century painter. The original is currently on display in the Second Floor Living Hall at Biltmore House. |
