Unsurpassed Quality:
The Human Touch
Your replica will be
individually produced by hand especially for you. Professional
artisans using the most meticulous process in the industry create an
image on canvas accurate to the original painting with a lustrous
sheen and texture.
Moldings
The beautiful moldings framing
your replica are manufactured in fourteen different steps. First,
raw cut lengths of wood are produced from hardwood trees from
sustained yield forests. These hardwood lengths are then dried and
roughly milled into the shape of the desired molding. Gesso is
applied in a process similar to medieval tempera painting. Fine
gesso is used to build toward the desired profile. The final shape
of the molding is created with the application of the hard gesso in
preparation for gilding and the addition of compo, or ornamentation.
Compo, undercoat, sizing, gold or silver leaf if called for, and
sealers are applied to the molding. To complete the frame, the
molding is antiqued and a wash is applied for coloration. Finally,
the frame molding is sealed with another coat of sealer to protect
the finish.
Designers have chosen the appropriate frame for each of the
subjects.
Brass Name Plates
Brass nameplates engraved with the painting's
title, artist, and artist's lifespan are standard on most replicas.
Some frames do not allow for a nameplate. If you prefer your replica
without a nameplate, please specify this when ordering.
